Christmas Decorating

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas!!!
We have decorated.
Our theme this year seems to be poinsettias.
I have purchased several to decorate for a special even at church.
For now, they are decorating our home.
The tin came from the Lynchburg square, and it is one of my favorite things.

Decorating for Christmas

We have been decorating for Christmas today...
pictures from our house will come soon...
until then, here are some more pictures from our Harvest Festival.

We sold a lot of Chirstmas ornaments this year.

These ribbon ornaments were really easy to make.  We found the directions on Pinterest.

Fall Cookies

I love these cookies.
They are so easy to make and can be made to match the season or the holiday.

Remember from one of my last posts that the secret to making these cookies is Pam for Baking...it keeps these cookies from sticking to the pan.

Happy Fall!!!
Fun to make, fun to eat, and fun to look at...

Harvest Festival

The annual Harvest Festival at my church was last Saturday.  It was a huge success.
I have lots of pictures to share from the day, but I thought I would start with pictures from my favorite table this year.

First of all...I just love these ghosts.
They are very simple and very cute.

And of course, it is no secret how much I like Happy Home Flavorings.
I purchased the Strawberry and Peppermint variety this year.
I will let you know what I make with these as soon as I figure out what I can make.

Some cute fall arrangements were added to this table.

Quote the raven, "Nevermore".

There were no ghosts left at the end of the day.
We had very few arrangements left and only a few flavorings.
The crowd was steady all day.
I will share more pictures later.

New Books

I love getting new ACR books for my classroom.
The kids get so excited about checking one out.

These books are some of my favorite to recommend to the kids.

 They won't stay here long.

The kids are begging to check one out.
Anticipation is part of the fun.
Even Einstein approves of these titles.

Chocolate Special K Cookies

My son left for college about three weeks ago.
This is the only excuse I have for my absence from blogging.
(I actually don't think one has
anything to do with the other...but it sounds like a good excuse.)
This past weekend was his first
weekend home from school.
So naturally, I made cookies all weekend.
I still love these chocolate chip cookies...the recipe that I borrowed from "the butler".
My son's favorite cookies are Special K cookies.
I wanted to make two batches, so that he could take some to share some with his roommates;
but, I didn't have enough Special K.
My husband suggested I try the chocolate variety of Special K that I had in the cabinet.
Here are the results:

Because you add the cereal after you take
the mixture off the stove, I wasn't really expecting the chocolate to melt.
What we ended up with was absolutely delicious.
I am not sure that I would say they are better than the original, but they are definitely different.
I will make these again!!!

Lemon Dessert

When I was a teenager, I copied several recipes onto index cards and put them in my Hope Chest for when I got married.  I have been so glad that I did that.  These recipes have been used over and over.  I remember eating this lemon delight when I lived at home, but it was not something we fixed very often...
probably because the ingredients were expensive to buy.

You will need:
2 cups graham crackers
1 stick oleo

1 cup powdered sugar
1 pk. dream whip
8 ounces cream cheese

3 cups milk
2 small boxes lemon instant pudding

1/2 pint whipping cream
1/2 cup sugar

Begin by putting graham crackers in a baggie and crushing with a rolling pin.  Measure out 2 cups.

Mix the graham cracker crumbs and the melted stick of oleo.

Press this mixture in the bottom of a 9x12 inch dish.

Now, mix the package of dream whip according to the directions on the package.
You will need some vanilla and milk for this.

Add the powdered sugar and cream cheese to the dream whip and mix together.
(There is a lot of beating with a mixer for this recipe.  Wearing an apron is a great idea.)

Spread this mixture onto the graham cracker crust.

Throughly mix the 3 cups of milk and the 2 boxes of lemon pudding with a mixer.

Add the lemon layer...yummmmmm.

This is my favorite layer...
whipping cream.
Beat the whipping cream with the 1/2 cup of sugar at high spead until stiff.

The whipping cream is the final layer to add.

This dessert is better the second day...after the graham crackers have a chance to soften a little.
Enjoy.
