High School

Remember high school???
My son has had a very busy last couple of weeks.
He was initiated into the LHS Beta Club last Sunday.  Because he and his friend are co-vice  Presidents, they each had a speaking part in the ceremony.  The picture above is from that day.
Then, last week was homecoming.
He had great fun with the dress up days.
On Cowboy day, he dressed just like his Dad use to dress every day in high school...cowboy boots
and a cowboy hat.
(And a belt with a huge buckle.)
On Rock star day, he sported a blonde
 wig with long hair.
On Twin day, he and his friend went as the Blues Brothers.  That had to be my favorite.
Below is a picture of the sign he hung on his
jeep for the parade.
This week has been Fair Week in our little town, so he has spent the week working at the fair for the Interact Club
Such a busy life when you are a teenager.

Jar Mixes

Sorry about my absence from the blogging world.
I've had some difficulties downloading pictures.
I finally have opted for an alternative method.
The picture you see here is from my church's 2009 Harvest Festival.

We are currently busy getting ready for this year's event to be held Saturday, October 9th.  The picture above is a peanut butter criss-cross cookie mix.  We have made more of these for this year's festival.
It is a very busy time for me as I am the lucky chair of this event.  It is a lot of hard work, but I really enjoy it.

I Saw God Today

Well...it actually all started yesterday.
I was at a family reunion.  The one we have every year at a beautiful little white country church beside a creek.
My mother's youngest brother...my uncle...who just celebrated his 60th wedding anniversary and is approaching the young age of 80 announced that he had something for his nieces and nephews in his car.  He preceded to pass out numbers...he had one number for each of us to match the gift he had in his car.
What he pulled from his car is still taking my breath away.
Fourteen pictures...
Fourteen beautifully painted pictures...
Yes...
No...
It was actually fourteen beautifully hand cross stitched pictures.  Tiny, tiny, tiny little crosses...thousands of crosses...each one made one at a time.   Hours and hours of tiny little crosses.  All put together to look like a beautiful picture when viewed from afar.
We were amazed.
He tells us he began these around the year 2004.  He worked 6-7 hours a night for 3-4 months on each picture.  They were pictures transformed into patterns by a computer.  And then, he lovingly cross stitched.
(You can see the tiny crosses if you click on a picture.)
My sister told him, a million dollars would not have been more special.
I saw God in that church yesterday.
And when I look at my picture...in my house...made by my Uncle Jim...I will see God every day!!!

Silver and Glass Bowl

Tadah...

This is my official "favorite" purchase from the Dog Days Flea Market.  This is a very heavy bowl.  It looks old...I have no idea if it is old or not, I just liked the combination of glass and silver.

I brought the bowl home, polished it, and added it to the middle of my dining room table.  Isn't if just lovely???
And the best news is...I paid exactly $1.00 for it.

I just love a good bargain!

Embroidered Pillow Cases

This is another great bargain from the Dog Days Flea Market.  I found these hand embroidered cotton pillowcases for $4.00
This pair of pillowcases has the embroidery work on the front and the back...which is unusual.
They are also trimmed in a very pretty lace.
Both cases are in great condition.
I have washed them, ironed them, and placed them on my bed.  I really like the quality of the material in these older pillowcases.
I'll be sharing my favorite purchase with you tomorrow.

Dog Days Flea Market Continued

This is actually the piece I was wanting to purchase at the Dog Days Flea Market, when the lady offered me three pieces for $1.00.  So, I wound up with this little one inch pottery piece,
and...
This little three inch "butter" dish...
and...
the piece I showed you in yesterday's blog.
All three pieces for $1.00!!!
Remember, I spent $8.00 total.
So, I'll be showing you the rest of my bargains later.

Dog Days

There is a weekend flea market that is held in a field in Ardmore, Tennessee, that is called the Dog Days Flea Market.  I have been there several times, but this was my first year to go on Labor Day.  Wow!!!  The crowd was unbelievable.

My husband and I got there around 6:00 a.m.!  I did not understand why we had to go so early, until we got ready to leave and come home around 9:00 a.m.  The line of cars coming in was backed up forever...I am sure they had about an hour to wait just to get to the parking area.  I was really glad we had gotten up early.

This flea market is very unique.  There is a large variety of booths.  They even sell live animals...dogs, ducks, chickens, etc.  I focused on the antique booths, and I had a great time shopping and bargaining.

My purchases for the day totaled $8.00.  I am still amazed at what all I got for $8.00.  Over the next few days, I am going to share with you some pictures of my bargains.

This first item I was not even intending to buy.  I actually had asked the lady for a price on another very small pottery item.  (I'll show it to you next time.)  She told me there were three pieces that went together, and she would let me have them for $1.00.  You can't exactly beat that for a deal.
This little blue candle holder fits nicely on my dining room hutch.

I especially liked this purchase, because it just came along
with something else.
