Mother Daughter Banquet

On Friday night, our church held its very first Mother/Daughter Banquet.  It was a night that I desperately needed.  It was so relaxing and fun.

The ladies organization had the Fellowship Hall beautifully decorated.  We were served a delicious meal and then the entertainment began.

After playing some fun and silly games, we were entertained by a duet that sang the most beautiful songs, and my own daughter sang a lovely song acapella.  We then enjoyed a wonderful speaker who reminded us of the importance of being Godly mothers.  She also reminded us of the importance of praying for our children.

I thought I would share the following scripture that was read to us at this banquet.  It is a beautiful reminder on this Mother's Day of our role as Mothers.

Deuteronomy 11: 18-21
"Fix these words of mine in your hearts and minds; tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads.  Teach them to your children, talking about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.  Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates, so that your days and the days of your children may be many in the land that the Lord swore to give your forefathers, as many as the days that the heavens are above the earth."

And In Bowl Number Three...

So here we have it.  This is what I put in bowl number 3...
I wanted to try lemons, but I didn't have any in the house at the time.  At least, this display looked pretty for about 30 minutes...long enough for me to make the potato salad.

What Belongs In Bowl Number 3?

I needed a place for my strawberries to stay while waiting for me to make the strawberry pie I showed you in the previous post.  The picture below shows the bowl I chose to put them in...where they waited patiently for a day.

The next day, I boiled 8 eggs to make potato salad.  While they cooled, I placed them in a second bowl.

At this point, I began to ponder...what could I put in the third bowl???  Any suggestions?????????????????

I'll share with you in my next post what I chose for the third bowl.  Feel free to comment if you have a guess.

Strawberry Cream Cheese Pie

This is the recipe I promised.
Yes, it is strawberry pie.  This is a very special strawberry pie, because it is the pie my Dad use to make when I was living at home as a teenager.
After he discovered this easy recipe, he would make a pie every spring.  It is so simple to make and absolutely delicious.

You will need:
1 graham cracker crust
8 ounces cream cheese, softened
1 can Eagle Brand (14 oz.)
1/3 cup ReaLemon Juice
1 tsp. vanilla
1 qt.  fresh strawberries
1 (16 oz.) pkg. strawberry glaze
Beat cream cheese until fluffy.  Beat in Eagle Brand milk until smooth.
Add lemon juice and vanilla.
Pour into crust.
Chill 3 hours.
Top with strawberries.
Add glaze.
Chill any leftovers.
Enjoy!

Nashville Flood

Something good is coming...
And yes, it has to do with strawberries.
I am getting ready to share a very special recipe with you.
We need something special around here.
We have spent today watching local coverage of the Nashville flood...oh my.  It seems to be getting worse and worse.
We have been out of school today, and we will be out again tomorrow.
It seems we have some local roads that have been damaged.
So...I am catching up on some much needed time around the house.
My daughter has not been "too" upset about missing her trip.
She tells me she feels selfish for being upset about missing her trip after watching all the people on television who have lost their homes.
I think that is a great way of looking at things...feeling selfish.
How ironic that we were suppose to ride the General Jackson on the Cumberland River tomorrow.
The General Jackson is now sitting in the parking lot of the Opryland Hotel.
Let us pray for these people.

Wow...what a week!

I feel like I have fallen off the planet for a few days.
My daughter had two big trips that she and I were to enjoy this past weekend and tomorrow.  We have been so busy this week with our normal activities and getting ready for these trips.

We left Friday afternoon for America Sings in Nashville, TN.  My daughter's school chorus was to perform on Saturday.  The picture you see is from downtown Nashville on Friday night...we had a wonderful opening ceremony and practice leading up to the main activities to be held on Saturday.

Of course, the Saturday festivities never happened.  We woke Saturday morning to rain.  Our wonderful leaders had a back-up plan to take the kids to the Discovery Science Center.  We went there to wait out the rain and storms...and then the unimagineable happened.  Flooding!   We could not leave the Science Center because interstates were flooded.

The kids played and played and were very well behaved.  We wasted time at a Cracker Barrel while our leaders analyzed the situation and made some very wise decisions about what we should do.  We finally made it home about 10:30 last night.

And wow!

Have you seen the news?  Flooding today in Nashville has been overwhelming.  My daughter and I saw pictures on the news of places we visited Friday night that are now covered in water.  The picture above of the State Capital was made from an area that today is covered in water...located next to the Farmer's Market.

We are so thankful for the safe return of our students.  We are thankful for the fun that we had in spite of the circumstances.  We are thankful for the calm guidance of our leaders:).

And now...
Wow...

We are suppose to leave at 6:30 in the morning to go on another trip with my daughter's advanced class to sleep in a cave in Kentucky and then, float the Cumberland River on Tuesday.  I really don't think we will even leave for this one...surely it will be cancelled ahead of time.
(Sure enough, I just got the word it has been cancelled.)

Wow...what a mess.  I feel so bad for the people who have been affected by this flooding.  Our issues seem so small compared to them.  We'll hope for a brighter day tomorrow.

The Serenity Prayer

The Serenity Prayer
God grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change;
courage to change the things I can;
and wisdom to know the difference.

Living one day at a time;
Enjoying one moment at a time;
Accepting hardships as the pathway to peace;
Taking, as He did, this sinful world
as it is, not as I would have it;
Trusting that He will make all things right
if I surrender to His Will;
That I may be reasonably happy in this life
and supremely happy with him
Forever in the next.
Amen.
