Apple Goody

It's time for another recipe...so how about something for fall.  This is my Sewing Sister's recipe.  Her family loves it when she makes Apple Goody.

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

You will need:

1 can pie apples (or 4-5 fresh apples peeled and sliced)
1 cup sugar
2 Tbsp. flour
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon salt

Topping:
3/4 cup brown sugar
3/4 cup oats
3/4 cup flour
1/4 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 stick melted margarine
Lucky for me, my Sewing Sister called just as I started making this.  I told her I was making Apple Goody, and she told me the recipe I was using had the margarine left off the recipe.  Sure enough, I would have really messed it up if she hadn't called.
Mix the pie filling, sugar, flour, cinnamon, and salt.  Pour into a large baking dish.  ( I really feel like I am cooking when I have to measure baking powder, salt, and such.)
Next, mix all the topping ingredients adding the margarine last.
This makes a crumbly mixture that you will crumble by hand on top of the filling.
Now bake until brown and bubbly.  I baked mine around 25 minutes.
Enjoy the smells eminating from your oven as this cooks.
Tomorrow I will show you how I am serving this!!!

Wreaths

Just being inspired is not enough.  Creating something beautiful acually takes talent, too.  I was feeling inspired by my visits to the Blomsterverkstad Site, but my creations are not quite as nice as hers.
Here is my moss wreath.

And my "heart shaped" ivy wreath.

Oh well...I'll keep reading her blog and try again another day.

Happy Halloween

This was my daughter's first year to be too old to trick or treat.  So...she made a Frankenstein cake instead.  I thought it turned out kind of cute.
Of course, now she has purple hands from the black food coloring.  I'm not quiet sure how that happened.

Inspirational Blog

I have added a new blog to my list of favorite blogs on the right hand side of my site.  I just found this lovely blog a few days ago, and I have truly enjoyed perusing it.  I have tried to only look at a few pages each day, so that I may savor the contents.

The writer of the blog, Minna, is from Sweden.  She creates wreathes and arrangements from things that she finds in nature.  She uses lots of moss in her creations.  I am feeling truly inspired by her creativity, and I hope to try my hand at making a few arrangements this weekend.  We definitely have plenty of moss and other natural resources readily available here in the Big Woods.

If you like this type of thing, I highly recommend that you take a look at her site.  http://www.blomsterverkstad.blogspot.com/  Just looking at the pictures of things she has created around her home gives me such a nice feeling.  Enjoy!

Long Table Party

More pictures as promised...
This was a very long table...enough to seat 40 people.
The yellow flowers came from Kroger...everything else we cut from the side of the road.
The red lanterns we moved from my front porch to a tree.  They were very pretty when lit after dark.
The "long" tablecloth is just a piece of
extra wide muslin material.
We had lots of candle light, a small fire, and tiki torches to help us see after dark.
This is the dessert table...two pecan pies, three variations of Paula Deen butter gooeys (the pecan coconut was my favorite, but the double chocolate went first), and a chocolate cake.
The fruit tea you see above in the pretty jar went first:
3 family size tea bags
2 cups sugar
1 large frozen pineapple/orange juice
1 small frozen lemonade
Add water to make a gallon.
Good food, great friends, fun music, and beautiful weather made for a nice evening.
