Knitted Dish Clothes

My Lynchburg Sister has been busy
 knitting as of late.
She is making the most of her recent retirement and using her time wisely.

I really like the colors of these knitted dishcloths.

Which do you like the best?
The blue or the red?

Crocheting and Knitting

        Year in Crocheting and Knitting

I really enjoy looking back through the past year's blogs to see what my family has done
during the previous year.
Last year was not a year for crocheting and knitting.  I could only find a few posts with projects
I had finished.
I did make lots of the cotton scrubbies.
I gave some away as gifts and even sold a few during a summer yard sale.

Maybe 2012 will offer more time for crafting.
Then again, I have one child graduating from High School and another graduating from the Eighth Grade this year, so the crafting may have to wait until another year.

Tawashi Rose Scrubbie

I love finding new crochet patterns that are easy, creative, different, and fun to make.
This one is definitely going to be added to my favorites stash.

These scrubbies are made from cotton yarn.  They can be used to wash dishes...similar to a cotton dishcloth.

Making these scrubbies is a great way to use up scraps you may have of cotton yarn.  You can find the pattern here:  scrubbie pattern
You can go to this link to see some great pictures of scrubbies:  scrubbie photos

This is a video that might help:

I tried out my first scrubbie to see if I would like using it when washing dishes, and I thought it worked great.  Fun to make, fast to make, and works great!!!

Crochet Hat

Oddly enough, it is spring,
and I am still crocheting winter hats.
I could not resist trying this one.
I ordered the pattern from a shop on Etsy, and it came the next day for me to download and print on my computer.
The patttern is very simple, and it only took me a few hours to crochet the hat.  I can't wait to try it on my great niece to see how it looks.  I think it will be terribly fun for her to wear.
If you are interested in ordering a pattern for yourself, this is the website where I found the pattern:

Blue Knitted Hat

Remember my last attempt at knitting a hat.  It was way too small.  If at first you don't succeed...try, try again.

Here is my second attempt:

I used the largest size on the pattern, and it fits my head perfectly.

I promise this is a really easy pattern.  But, somehow I had a difficult time making this hat.  I kept dropping stitches or getting off the pattern, so I took out rows of work at least 3 times.  I really did not think I would ever finish it.

Will I try this pattern again???  YOU BET.  I really like the look of the hat and sewing it together at the end is a breeze.  I just need to pay more attention to what I am doing next time.

Knitted Cap

I have been looking for a good pattern for a knitted cap, and I think I may have found what I was looking for.  I really like how this cap turned out.
It can be worn with the cuff or without.
I knitted this one with size 10 needles following the standard directions.  It did turn out a little small.  I have begun another one in blue...this time I am using size 11 needles and following the directions for the adult cap.  I plan to work on it tomorrow...because, I just got word that school has been cancelled tomorrow for snow...and I think this will be a great project for my day!!!  I'll be knitting and working on this puzzle with my kids.
If you would like to try this pattern, just follow this link: knitted cap.  The thread I used is Vanna's Choice.

Year in Sewing, Crocheting, Knitting

Of all these things, my favorite thing to make had to be the dish cloths. I love the way they knit, and how they look when finished.  They also wash well...which is always a plus!!!
Most of these patterns can be found by clicking the "Crochet/Knitting" tab at the top of my blog.  Also, you may notice on the side of my blog, that the crochet round pillow has been the most popular post of the year.
(Remember to look at any of these collages a little closer, just click on the picture.)

Knitted Scarf

I have been longing for a day to stay home all day and knit.  Today, I finally got my wish.
I had purchased this Merino Bulky Wool called "Ushya" from the Knotty Ewe during my last trip to Lynchburg.  I had intended on making a hat, but opted to go for something a little easier and made a scarf instead.
With some rather large knitting needles and this bulky yarn, it is possible to knit a scarf in just a few hours.  I really enjoyed knitting with this yarn.
The pattern I used cast on 12 stitches.
K1, (yo, K2tog) repeat parenthesis to end of row, K1

Knitted Dish Cloths

These dish towels are the lasted addition to my Etsy Shop.  http://www.littlefamilybigwoods.etsy.com/
I really enjoy knitting this pattern.
The colors are fun, too.  I am really missing my knitting time now that school is back in session.  But, it has been a great week!

Knitted Scarf

This is my latest knitting project-a scarf for my daughter.
The thread is hand dyed cotton thread.
I am really enjoying knitting with this yarn.
It is very soft and easy to knit.
This is one of the skeins of thread that I purchased at
The Knotty Ewe in Lynchburg, TN.
Knitting is so relaxing.  This morning before I went to work, I sat down and knitted 4 quick rows.  I wish I could do this every day.

LittleFamilyBigWoods Etsy Shop

I have a very special announcement to make.

After much studying, considering, wondering, and playing around...I have decided to open my very own Etsy Shop.  I am very excited to share this news with you.

My shop will include several items that I have made myself...some of which you have seen come together here on my blog. Like this pillow for instance:   http://littlefamilyinthebigwoods.blogspot.com/2010/06/pillow-project.html

I will also offer for sale a few heirloom and vintage items.

I have been working the past few days getting my little shop ready to open.  I have lots more that I am hoping to post, but it is a slow process for me.

You can visit my shop here:

Crochet Round Pillow

If you haven't caught on by now, I just love Lucy's blog over at http://www.attic24.typepad.com/.  She has wonderful crocheting tutorials that walk you through projects step by step with pictures.  I have been following her flat circle tutorial to make a round pillow.  I just recently finished the pillow by crocheting both sides together around a pillow form.
I had the hardest time finding a round pillow form.  I finally ordered three from a lady on Etsy.  There were none at the craft stores around here, and there were none available to order from these same stores online.  Any suggestions???
I will show my finished pillow in my next post.
