Seven Layer Salad

Happy New Year
2013
Let's start the new year with a new recipe...
This is a good one that I have borrowed from a friend.
You will need:
Romaine lettuce
chopped onion
chopped green pepper
1 can drained sweet peas
1 to 1 1/2 cups mayonaise or salad dressing
1 Tablespoon sugar
1/2 lemon (juiced)
small curd cottage cheese
spam (diced)
shredded cheese (mild cheddar)
bacon bits

Dice the spam, pepper and onions
 into very small pieces.
I actually used half of each for this salad.

After washing and draining the lettuce,
chop it into very fine pieces.
I used two Romaine hearts for this salad.

Place the lettuce in a large decorative bowl.

Add the onion, pepper, and green peas.

Mix together with a whisk the mayonaise,
lemon juice, and sugar.

Spread the mayo mixture on top of the peas, and then spread the cottage cheese on top of the mayo.

Next, add the diced spam.

Add the cheese and the bacon bits.

I just used my own judgement about how much of each ingredient to add for the size salad I was making.  This is a beautiful dish to carry to a covered dish meal or a family gathering.
Enjoy...

Santa Hats

The only thing better than finding ideas on Pinterest is actually trying the ideas you find on Pinterest.

My daughter had a friend over and they put together these Santa hats.
They were really easy.
Just melt some white chocolate and then dip the end of a bugle into the chocolate.
Add the m&m, and you are finished.
These are cooling on waxed paper.

Now, we have bowls of Santa hats and...

...jars of Santa hats.
The sweet with the salty tastes great.

Marshmallow Reindeer

Isn't this just the cutest thing ever???
One of my students and her Mom made a marshmallow reindeer for every student in my class for Christmas.
The kids loved them.
The giant marshmallow was dipped in melted peanut butter chips and then decorated.
The whole thing is on a giant sucker stick.

I have not eaten mine yet.
There is something about the thought of peanut butter and marshmallow that is drawing me in...so I know it will not last much longer.
Cute, cute, cute.

Candy Bar Cake

What could be better than a Hershey's Chocolate Candy Bar Cake???

That's right...
two Hershey's Chocolate Candy Bar Cakes.

,
This was the first recipe I shared on my blog three years ago.
It is one of my very favorite and easiest recipes.
I usually make this cake for Christmas Day,
but this year, I have made two cakes for a special dinner I am hosting.
If you have never made one, I highly recommend it.  You can find the recipe here.

Christmas Christmas Time is Here

Christmas, Christmas Time is Here.
Time for Joy and Time for Cheer.

My ninety-nine cent poinsettias have been wrapped and tied with ribbon.

They seem to be all over our house.
I have left most of our decorations in the attic this year.
It seems we enjoy things more if there is not quite so much of it!!!

Decorating for me has become more simple than in years past.
It is the simple things I seem to enjoy most.
Adding Christmas cakes to a kitchen jar.

Or putting a few candy sticks in a glass container.

How do you decorate for the holidays?
